The life of Codi.

I would like to start by writing about my children individually, Starting with Codi.
Codi is 9 years old and has had a very tough start in life.
When I was pregnant with Codi I had a blood test called the triple test which indicates whether your child has a chance of being born with down syndrome or spinal bifida, When i received the results I was told that Codi had a high chance he would be born with spinal bifida, which is a spine defect which would mean that Codi would spend his life in a wheel chair. luckily Codi was not born with this but he was born with other defects which were only shown after I gave birth to him.
What Codi was actually born with was 2 different defects, 1 called amniotic banding syndrome and the other called talipes (also known as clubfoot).
So from a very young age Codi started undergoing operations at Birmingham Children's hospital.
He was just 6 weeks old when he had his first operation, which then led to him having to wear plaster casts on both legs from toes to groan until he was 6 months old with weekly changes of the casts due to growth.
Once he was finished in the plaster he then had another operation which meant he then had to wear a boots and bar everyday for 23 hours only allowing him to have an hour off a day.
When he turned 1 years old he only had to wear the boots and bar in bed which was very uncomfortable for him and he struggled to sleep, he had to do this until he was 4 years old.
In the mean time he had other surgeries to deal with the amniotic banding syndrome. altogether Codi has had 12 operations, 2 of which were major and landing Codi in a wheel chair for months and may still have to have many more.
Despite everything he has been through he is still a normal, very healthy boy who does everything anyone else would. He doesn't struggle with anything day to day and gets on with anything that is given to him. He makes me very proud everyday and is growing into a very clever and easygoing boy. If anyone has any questions about what Codi has been through then please comment. Above are just some of the operations Codi has gone through.
